Good evening, my name is Mike Lewis. My wife and I are prospectors from Sandpoint, ID. We don’t have much gold in this area due to a massive ice dam that melted and washed all of the gold south from the area. We spend most of our time on Libby Creek on Forest service land. The old GPAA claim was not renewed last year. That being said we managed to pull out a little over 5 grams last year. What we discovered was that the old miners tailing piles are full of large pieces of flake gold. We did manage to find a small picker a little less than a gram. We typically do day trips because it is only about 1 1/2 hours drive from home. This year I am hoping to do some camping this year. I hope to do a little more testing and scouting this year up on top. I hear the gold is chunky the higher you go. Anyway here is a few pics from our expeditions and gold hunting adventures. Hope you all have a wonderful gold season. May you pans and sluices be full.
Mike Lewis

That’s Awsome Mike ?
Thank you, just remember there is good gold in them tailing piles.
Nice color and being close like that I would start doing a lot of camping there ??
Absolutely, can’t wait to get back up and spend a few days.
Amazing! Some great looking pickers in there. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Jay, just bought a 20 acre claim in central Idaho. Hoping that will be the big payout.
Mike
Because of the GPAA not renewing the claim, does that just open the area to the public? Or did you purchase the claim? Good luck with that spot.
The claim is now owned by a couple. However they will let you prospect on it but they are very strict on how you mine it. That being said if you have a rig with good clearance it is forest service land with better gold in my opinion.
That’s some nice lookin gold Mike
There is good gold in Libby. Just gotta know where to find it.
Very nice!
Thank you
Sweet finds! Thanks for sharing!
Nice gold. Hope you find lots more.
Very nice find, The last two times I was in Libby the water was high in the spring. I look forward to digging in Libby Creek this summer. Thanks for the pics.
You bet, seems there is plenty up there.
Wish I could find something like that in Texas.
wow! that’s cool!
Can you dredge or high banker at Libbey?
My understanding is no. We typically sluice. That being said I know there are folks on some claims that do high bank.
I’ve panned the banks of lobby creek years ago. Ton of black sand. Word is they used a lot of mercury so if you dredge go deep in the bed rock as that is where the mercury settled in.
Nice gold!
I am in Moscow, Idaho. Not too far from you. Libby creek is very familiar to me. I grew up in Libby Montana. Nice to see a guy near home getting some shiny. good job!
