Stream Sluice as a dredge?

Hello all,

I was wondering if it would be possible to turn a stream sluice into a dredge?  I was thinking by using the power head attachment matched with a Keene P90 pump you could have a pretty cool 1.5" or 2" dredge that would be pretty dang portable and might be nice for smaller streams and creeks?

My concern is that at 6000 GPH would we be blowing out the mats?  If we were to pinch back on the flow would we still get enough suction at the nozzle?

I really like the idea since it would be such a versatile system.  It could be the obvious stream sluice, also a highbanker, and finally a decent little dredge which would be highly portable.

Any thoughts on if this could work?

Thanks!

I often use a Honda WX 15 with a P90 as a water source for something else and the water flow should be about what you need for one or the other of the 2 mats that come with the Gold Hog in-stream sluice.

There could be some problems with the bottom of the power head not allowing 2" rocks under it - if so you might have to raise the power head a little.   Not a major operation at all.

Give it a go and report back!

Hello I know the power head is easier to deal with and transport but if possible may try making a small crash box or finding one so you can have your bigger rocks roll off the back and not going down your sluice something like the piglet box it makes a big different in your sluice. why run big rocks down your sluice.

I'm thinking it would be way to much pressure with the P90 why not try a 2" semitrash pump?

I use the WX 15 with a P90 pump on my 2" dredge highbanker combo and run at about 3/4 throttle and still have plenty of suction.

Yes /sir, Pretty much the same as me.  +- 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and there is plenty of water to do what I need - and the reserve is always there for changing circumstances..  Always running an engine / pump at or near full throttle is not what I usually do.  Where I work it's a day or more to just get (or order) parts and if the engine suffers mishap then the mining for at least the week is over.
